BAD ASH BATZ
A CUT ABOVE THE REST
HANDMADE CUSTOM BATS
Welcome to “Bad Ash Batz”!! About a year ago we created the site for our baseball glove repair business called Golden Glove Repair. (The link is available above, take a look) Now that the GGR site is up and running, it’s time to expand our service portfolio.
I wanted to start a business where I could make bats completely by hand, so I started doing some research. The next thing I know I was purchasing a lathe and the rest is history.
At Bad Ash Batz, I can actually say that the bats I make are completely made by hand. Mine! I do not use a CNC machine to turn my bats and then sand them by hand like other bat makers. When you order a bat from me, it’s completely custom made by hand, just for my client. Notice I say clients and not customers. I truly feel that this is the proper term. I take the time to interact with each of my clients to make sure we agree on the service that I will do. This way there are no surprises. Our bats are made to order only, which means that I don’t have bats for sale that are already made. I make them when you order them. Since I only have one lathe, I can only work on one bat at a time. This includes turning, sanding and staining and clear coat. I take my time and do it the old fashion way.
All of our bats are "bone rubbed". This was used in the 20's and 30's by names like Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. It is used to smooth, shine and harden the bat. It seals the pores in the wood and helps prevent it from flaking.
Since I can offer a bat at any length or weight the customer wants, I only have two restrictions. One is the length of my Lathe. It keeps me from making a bat over 38”. The other restriction is your imagination. The last bat I made was 31.5” length and a 31.5 oz. Try that with a factory made bat! Anything is possible…
We make bats from Ash, but will special order Maple, Bamboo, and Birch. I order high quality billets and use only high quality materials for every order that is placed. If you would like to provide the wood for your bat, no problem as long as it is a safe wood to use for a bat, I don’t have a problem working with you.
The services tab explains all of the things I can do for my clients. I follow the same idea with Golden Glove Repair, and it seems to work better that way. You are not just a number to me, you are a client.
I have tried to be as comprehensive as possible with this site, but I am positive that I have either not explained something well, or missed it altogether. If you have any questions regarding Bad Ash Batz or Golden Glove Repair please feel free to email me @pgwitbeck3@aol.com.
Thanks- Pete
